BOOK REVIEW-THE BABY SLEEP SOLUTION

….I just want to say thank you for your book! It’s absolutely magical and I’ve only been following your guides for less than a week. I have a 5.5 month old baby boy named S. I know that you don’t recommend “sleep training” before 6 months but we were desperate! Sam was a cat napper and a very poor one at that. We had somehow fallen into the habit of nursing him to sleep, which meant short naps, frequent wakings, and reversing his feeds so that he ate all night long and only snacked during the day.
We have already managed to teach him to go to sleep without nursing for both naps and bedtimes which is a huge achievement for us! He’s also napping. He started napping on schedule for the correct amount of time the very first day that we started the routine. He sleeps better at night too, waking every 3-4 hours instead of 1-2.
I know it’s still very much a work in progress but I just wanted to say thank you for your wonderful, magical book!!! I’ve been telling all the moms I know about our success so far.
Your book made the process seem far less daunting than other sleep guides and books that I have read, which made it much easier to start the learning process.
Tonight my husband is going to be able to put Sam to bed and I never thought that I would have a bedtime off.
Thanks again from a very happy Mommy…..

….So I went out and bought your book on Friday and read through it all. We started implementing your suggested routine straight away and have successfully gotten baby to sleep at bedtime and 2 morning naps now using the stay and support approach (instead of nursing).

Just to say, the book is fantastic. Well laid out and easy to flick through when you are desperately searching for quick answers! I found myself crying when I read about providing more one on one time with baby because I hadn’t been doing this at all believing nursing was our one on one time. Thank you, you’ve also helped me be and feel like a better mum!
All the best with the new book. Whatever our outcome (which I’m feeling very positive about) I will be recommending this book to all my friends…

……we have O sleeping 10.5 to 11 hours after reading your book, we did the stay and support method and for the last 3 weeks we have a new child so we would like to say thank you so much for all your help………..

I bought your book….Since then I have started to use your guidelines and have seen a massive improvement in his sleep. So he wakes any time between 6 and 7 although today we went to 7 10am!!. Has his bottle within a half hour and then his breakfast shortly after. Then two hours later he goes for his nap in his cot, blinds pulled with a soother and muslin cloth, he sleeps on his side and generally we just leave him down and walk out and he goes asleep himself! Amazing! The odd time we could have tears or he may need more help. This goes for all sleeps now, which is so different than before.

He doesn’t have a bottle anymore at night but sucks a soother. He no longer is awake for an hour or more if he wakes, it’s usually a matter of giving back the soother and putting on his side. While this might happen a number of times it is a far cry to what was happening! Then some nights he will not wake till 3 30 or 4 30 n then just giving back soother. Last night he slept from 830 to 530 then 609 and up at 710.
I have to say we are thrilled to be this far.

……She has much improved since we first contacted you- we got your book and did a lot of work on the sleep which is great…..

……Can’t recommend the book enough, having not been in a position to pay for private help from Lucy I bought the book and hoped that I would be able to “fix” sleep for all of us! My little boy was 10 months and had never had a nap in his cot, he would only nap for 45min-1hr max once or twice a day in the buggy but it could take 45mins rocking to get him down, at night it was even worse, an hour or two of daddy and I pacing the floors, singing, rocking and anything else we could think of to get him to sleep, he was always in our bed by 3-4am or earlier. My partner was exhausted as he didn’t sleep once baby was in bed so ended up on the couch most nights to just get a little sleep before work. With a new baby due this Christmas we were at the end of our ropes with it all and very worried about baby arriving.
Ever the sceptic my partner didn’t think just reading a book and changing the routine would do much, I secretly didn’t think I could do it either but was determined to try.
He started to sleep through straight away, naps improved within a week or two and within a month baby was falling asleep by himself usually within 10mins after being settled into his cot. He now sleeps at least 11hrs every night, no waking at all, naps are fantastically predictable too, in fact some days I have to wake him because he has slept too long! The grumpy screeching baby is gone and a happy well rested one year old in his place! Thanks Lucy, it took a bit of patience but it worked

Hi Lucy…sorry for e-mailing on a Sat night but I’m just bursting to let you know how your book has changed our lives!!! I discovered last night that we have a new taoiseach and that the UK are leaving the EU!!! I started both your sleep training and night feed weaning our gorgeous baby girl S last Sunday night and every night since about Thursday I’ve seen the 9.00 news…last night I think she slept right through the night…i know I did!!! Many, many thanks again …..

“Your book is fantastic. I’ve read a number of baby sleep book and your book is the best by far; you do something that the rest of the books don’t do which is very important for compliance with the routines/ interventions; you explain why one needs to do x, y or z. You also are a lot more flexible in your approach than a lot of the books which is more appealing to families.”

So I bought your book and I love it. I really mean that. I love that you keep stressing that it is not going to be fixed instantly, and that you give a step-by-step, day-by-day guide to how to teach our little ones how to sleep.

Firstly I would like to thank you! Thank you for giving us our life back. Before your book my son could wake 20+ times a night sometimes for 10 minutes sometimes for hours, he would cat nap for maybe 20 minutes twice a day and was a constant overtired cranky boots. We were at breaking point and felt we had tried every trick in the book. I really am against letting babies cry it out and felt that this was the only chance left. I had read books and articles listened to all the advice under the sun. Then your book popped up in my suggested reads on Amazon so I gave it a go. Now my happy little boy has 2 decent naps, wakes up refreshed and well rested, he goes to bed at 7 in the evening (best of luck to anyone who dares to keep him up any later) and I have to wake him in the mornings at 7.30! We don’t even have a dummy run!!! It actually only took 4 nights to get a 12 hour stretch of sleep and there was less crying implementing your changes than there was before. I remember sitting on the couch at 7pm on the 4th night and I sent u a DM to thank you. I have said it before and I will say it again your book is like my bible, it has given me my life back, from the bottom of my heart thank you

Hi, Your book only arrived today. But I had been reading your articles over the last few days while I anxiously waited!! Some things we tried this week were starting their wake time earlier, we tried to be more scheduled with their nap and bedtime. one twin screams the house down going to bed lately, he was actually holding onto me as I got closer to his cot tonight. I have really only had a chance to scan sections of the book so far today but tonight I sat on the floor beside him… within 15 minutes he was fast asleep! A major record lately, it’s been up to 3 hours some nights! The other twin is usually the problem during the night & only woke once last night so I’m looking forward to making more changes and hopefully improving all our sleep and routines. Fingers crossed we’re off to a great start
Hi Lucy…I bought your book last week in Tesco Douglas. I have tweaked naps as per your book for my 7month old as she woke on the hour at night and cat napped through the day. As a result of sticking to a routine for the first few days she is having 2 or 3 naps during the day now and wakung either once or twice at night which is a huge improvement for us. Thank you so much, I have recommended your book to a few friends

We borrowed The Baby Sleep Solution from our local county library. Renewed it quite a few times too, to keep it on hand, and us on track.
We made small changes to our evening routine and then followed the bedtime routine for 18 month olds.
We are delighted with all that was achieved, and all without tears – hers or ours!

An excellent book which addresses all components of sleep and most importantly…..it works a treat! Thanks Lucy!

Two words Lucy- life saving!!

Best book I bought and 1 I kept referring back to until LO was 12mths

Great book lucy have passed it around a few friends it definitely works as long as we stick with it

Fantastic book, easy tips to follow but persistence is key!! We now have an 18 month old who tells us when it’s time for bed!!! Thanks Lucy!

your book has transformed my life. all it took was implementing your nap schedule. my 8 mo didnt sleep day or night. your book was recommended by a friend. she now naps twice a day and sleeps with 1 or 2 wake up at night. she was co sleeping.. wanted ro feed all night woke minimum 8 times. we were both exhausted. shes now in her own room . i still feed before bed but mostly shes awake going into cot and settles easily enough. and still feed on demand but the demands are far less. i honestly didnt believe it could work. THANK YOU so much .

My little girl is 1 now and has been sleeping through since she was 7 months old because I implemented the self settling approach that you teach on your book, she used to have all her naps on my arms and would wake up many times during the night.I was able to teach her to self settle and to sleep in her cot during her naps thanks to you.Happy mummy and happy baby 😊 thank you so much xx

I bought Lucy’s book when my daughter was 5.5 months old. Initially I was sceptical that reading a book could transform my daughters poor sleeping habits! She needed to be nursed to sleep or else buggy/Car for naps. All her naps were short and she woke multiple times a night, needing a feed to resettle. I followed Lucy’s plan and within 10 days my little girl was settling herself to sleep for her naps and also bedtime. Her bedtime also changed from 10pm to 7pm! As she has gotten older I have adjusted her routine according to Lucy’s routines and she has maintained her 7pm bedtime, generally sleeping straight through to 5.45am. I’d highly recommend Lucy’s book to anyone in need of a nights sleep!!!

We bought your book in December and began making chances to my 16month old’s day routine and we saw big improvements at night time. Last Monday we began the stay and support approach and for the first time in 16months he has slept through the night 😊unfotuntley he has a head cold at the minute but we are still seeing so much improvemnt in his sleep. I breastfed him until 10months with several night wakings and holding him to sleep which I then replaced with pacing and rocking to sleep. My daughter is nearly 3 and half years old and she is now sleeping all night in her bed since we implemented the routine for her. We were lying down with her and either getting into her bed or taking her into our bed. Evening and night time has been transformed in our house, it’s amazing. I’m sure in the next few weeks my son will be settled. So happy so thank you very much

Our 20 month old has been very sleep resistant from 5 months. I tried other methods which worked temporarily but then he regressed. After reading your book and implementing the steps he is now sleeping through the night. Thank you.

Your book was recommended to me by a friend when my little boy was born. Everyone told me he would just ‘fall into a routine’ but as a first time mum I had no idea what to expect. We started implemented your ideas at around 5 months (bedtime routine, etc) and it’s been fantastic. Hes slept through the night from 6 months, has had a fairly regular routine and when he’s had the normal teething and sickness blips we get back on track straight away. It’s made me totally relaxed with his ‘routine’ and we can bring him anywhere at any time as I know it won’t affect his night time sleeps. This was especially important when I went back to work. It’s the only baby book I recommend to other mums! Thanks Lucy

I bought this book at the baby fare in the RDS last year while I was expecting. I read the book before my baby was born but I never truly anticipated that I would need help getting my baby to sleep!! I ended up breastfeeding my baby (despite not planning to do so) and our sleeping routine spiralled out of control. My baby became parent and boob dependent in order to sleep. It was a vicious cycle. I was feeding her every 45 minutes at night because that was the only way she could go back to sleep. We were both exhausted and it didn’t help that she was a very poor day time napper. She was getting 50 minutes a day. Thankfully she always enjoyed going to bed early, around 6.30/7.00 pm but I had to stay in bed with her as we were co sleeping and she needed me every 45 minutes so I was bedroom bound for the night. This day last week I took Lucy’s book out and I read it from front to back! To make a long story short, our 5 month old is now having 3/4 daytime naps, lasting between 40 minutes to an hour and a half. She is sleeping in her crib beside our bed and is waking approximately twice during the night for a feed. If she wakes any subsequent time she puts herself back to sleep. She still isn’t particularly happy going to sleep and cries for a short while but we just sit and reassure her and she usually nods off within 15 minutes. In a week we all have a whole new lease of life! And I don’t feel as hopeless anymore! Happy baby, happy mammy, all thanks to Lucy. Oh and it’s also worth noting that I love that she doesn’t recommend the cry it approach. Stay and support is the only way to go! Could not recommend this book enough. Every parent should have a copy.

Hi Lucy! My little boy is 13 months now. My mam bought your book for me when my baby boy was around 6 months old. I can honestly say it was one of the best presents! Our baby had just moved into his own room and we had decided it was time to start gently trying to get him into some semblance of a routine!! I started with daytime naps and followed your methods. I had a few difficult days getting him to go for naps but it clicked after a few days.. My clever boy responding well to your techniques 😀 once I had daytime naps mastered our next step was moving bedtime forward. Honestly there were nights when all 3 of us wouldn’t get to bed until 1130pm wondering where the day went….so how on earth would we manage a 7pm bedtime? Guess what? It worked!! Not straight away obviously but it didn’t take too long. I remember us sitting in front of the t.v. at 730pm wondering how we’d been doing it so wrong until now! Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we were 1st time parents just trying to figure it out! When Liam was 8 months i followed your techniques for night weaning and within 5 nights, night feeds were a thing of the past .. albeit there were 2 difficult nights. Worth it in the long run! Our baby is such a happy little boy who is in such a great routine so is well rested. I cannot recommend your book highly enough Lucy…in fact since I got it I have been recommending it at any possible opportunity….when something works why not share the secret?! This is a perfect present for any new parents. Thank you Lucy

The Baby Sleep Solution was the perfect solution for our little family. Our baby girl would only sleep in her Mummy’s arms during the day and was very unsettled during the night. As a father I felt helpless as only my wife could manage to settle her. Following the guidelines laid out in the book enabled my wife to teach our little girl to sleep in her cot and put herself back to sleep. I am so happy that I can now be a part of the bedtime and nap routines. I love putting my little girl down to sleep and watch her drift away to sleep on the camera. Very proud father and husband, very proud of my 2 girls.
I studied the book front to back and waited for the right time to start. We now have a baby who can sleep in a cot instead of going out in the pram at 8am. Night time is still a struggle and being in bed so early some nights has meant very early starts. It’s going to take time to slowly adjust that. He’s still up between 1 and 3 times and we have yet to achieve decent nap lengths. But it’s only been 3 weeks. I appreciate the daily structure to guide us as he grows. I would recommend the book to educate yourself about baby sleep and as a guide. Just don’t expect it to make your child sleep all night or for it to happen quickly!!

I saw u on the mornings my am show and ran out to buy this book.I would recommend this book to anyone I started it when by baby boy was 4 months old and found it fantastic,it helped me understand what he needed,he is a great sleeper thanks Lucy x

Hey there, I used Lucy’s book for my son at 6 months and within 3 nights he was sleeping through the night and within 5 days he was having 2 long naps during the day. Back at work now and having a baby that sleeps the night through every night is just brillaint. I cannot recommend the book enough.
I am a huge advocate of Lucy’s work and book since implementing the strategies after the 4 month sleep regression. Our little boy was finding day time naps an awful struggle but we got Lucy’s plan, stuck to it and it worked a dream! day time then fed into night time and we got ourselves a dream sleeper. I refer to the book regularly when going through age/ nap transitions etc. it is such a useful tool. I preach so much about it that my friends in my mother and baby group think I’m a sleep guru! our ten month old now sleeps over 12 uninterrupted hours each night from 7pm and we are thrilled to have our evenings back! Thanks Lucy

Lucy your book has been our life line.

There were so many days when it felt like nothing we were doing was working but your book finally put a structure on our days and we have a much happier little baba as a result. He is 8months old and we started your technique when he was 5 and a half months. I couldn’t bear the idea of allowing him to cry himself to sleep so your stay and support method suited us perfectly. We were really worried that we wouldn’t be able to ever get him to sleep without rocking and walking him asleep (and he is one heavy little baba!) but sure enough a couple of days into the new method and he was able to nod off himself. He has two solid naps a day and is in his leaba by 7pm every evening – we don’t know what to be doing with ourselves but its bliss!

Thank you so much for your sound and wise advice, the words of encouragement, your sensible and sympathetic approach and for giving us the confidence to implement the changes needed to have a much happier and contented little man.

Keep up the good work and the very best for all your endeavours in the future

So, I bought your book and its brilliant.

I am afraid to jinx it but so far, it is sorting J out. it seems the timing of the naps & bedtime is what he needed.

I have recommended my friends to get your book and even just had the health visitor here to do their one year check (at 14 months!) and she took a picture of the book to recommend to other mothers.

Thank you very much another easy 7pm bedtime after 12 hours sleep last night and we are only 4 days in! your book is my bible thank you

Followed Lucy’s book when my son was 6 months old and it was brilliant. When H was about 11 months he was struggling with having 2 naps and I followed Lucy’s instructions to reduce the first nap to an hour and once again it worked perfectly. I cannot recommend her book enough for sleep training. No crying it out.”

Thanks again from a very happy Mommy!

Hope you are well, I briefly mentioned on your instagram last week about our success story with our little ones sleep pattern.

He was 7 months and (me being a new mum thought he would “automatically slip into his own nap routine) would not sleep pass 45 minutes for his nap and the same in the afternoon. I knew naps during the day were important for his development that infound myself spending the whole daytying to get him to rest. He was even waking at 5am on que every too. He is a great night sleeper, just pop him in his cot and off he goes. But the day was exhausting (i know some parents would be glad of that during the day and have noghts sleep).

I ordered your book and within 3 days of sticking to the plan…..BOOM we had the start of a routine that he loves and suits him!! Its crazy how fast he started to fall into it and still knows on que when nap time is. I even kept in mind your tips on when we go away (Daddy is from Cork and we love in Mayo so lots of family visits). I.just keep the same times and he still falls in on que.
So thank you Lucy! ! You truley are a genuis and would love to see more of you on TV or even your own roadshow!!! Get the baby stores or someone to sponsor you as you will get a HUGE following. And parents will pay to hear your advice!! Our mum and baby group were on a dinner night out and you were the subject at our table for the night!! Next time you should come out with is!!!

Good luck with all your ventures

I had contacted you when my little girl was 14 weeks regarding day time nap problems, she only slept for a very short time and was always crying at nap time.
She was waking for feeds (2 or 3) during the night also but I was willing to go with this as she was so young.
It took about 8 weeks for her to achieve the sleeping feeding routine outlined in your book. I was so delighted when she finally got into a routine and the naps were an hour and a half long!!! Heaven!! I had to take a break from the routine of 2 weeks due to me getting sick – I think I would have achieved the naps quicker had I been able to continue straight through.
So at 24 weeks I had her doing so well during the day but the nights weren’t so great, she was waking up more often (4 times) and wanted a little bit of bottle to go back to sleep. Back to your book I went. And it only took 3 nights to get her to sleep through the night! I’m still in shock! 3 weeks in now and she will only wake for a dummy re plug maybe twice, or not at all.
I am so grateful, your book is my life saver. I feel normal again. A sincere thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I’ve been meaning to email you regarding your book. I firstly must admit since having my first baby I read every book possible, all of which were complete rubbish!
And it turns out I was very disillusioned when it came to babies and their sleep.
Our first baby never slept. Never. No exaggeration, we knew every squeaky floor board in our house, I could even tell you how many steps it would take to walk around the ground floor of our house because I spent all of my time rocking her to keep her asleep. She was a healthy full term baby with no medical issues, she just did not sleep. Every nap, every bed time was a battle, screaming, hysterics, tantrums, hyper maniacal laughing, it would be 20-30 mins of this then another hour to calm down and go to sleep. Then wake every hour. Naps could take 45mins – 1 hour to achieve 20 mins of sleep.

From reading books and articles I was wholly sceptical of infant sleep experts. All I read about was “cry it out” “extinction method” etc etc
My friends and family encouraged us to leave our daughter to cry.
Our GP said it was something we would have to do also. I couldn’t do it.
In almost 2 years my partner and I were at the end of the road. I had a second baby last September and any sleep became a distant memory.

I was loathed to buy another book or pay money to see a consultant who invariably (I thought) would tell us to leave her to “cry it out” so I will be the first to admit I was incredibly sceptical when I attended a talk held in Galway with yourself. I took notes and tried to implement some of the advice. Nothing worked.

I was so reluctant to do so, but I bought your book in November 2017, our daughter was almost 2 at the time.
My partner and I started reading it and making some changes to our routine as described in the book.
At Christmas we started your gradual retreat method described in the book when we were both at home.
She was waking up 7-8 times a night crying, tantrums, getting out of bed and could be up for 45 mins – 2 hours at a time.
We took it slowly, adapting it to suit our own pace.
After about 5 weeks things had improved slightly, waking 4-5 times a night. But we kept at it. Routine routine routine!

Anyway for the last month, our daughter has her bath at 6.15 and bed asleep by 7.15 at the latest. Nap time is at 11.30, she hops into bed lies down herself and goes to sleep in about 15-20 mins. No crying or tantrums.
She sleeps!! Did I mention she sleeps?? From 7-7.15pm until 5/6am.

I wanted to email you Lucy, simply because I could not have had lower expectations when I bought your book, and it has turned out lives around. There was no crying, every time she woke we responded straight away, and now she’s more than happy to go to sleep!

I want to thank you, sincerely, I never thought we would get to where we are today. From being the biggest sceptic, I’m now converted and I’m incredibly grateful to you. Thanks.

I downloaded your book last Sunday after my 5 month old was waking hourly! From the first night she slept only waking twice and settled very quickly. Now we’ve had 2 nights where she’s slept from 7-5 waking for a feed and back to sleep until 7am. I am so pleased with the new routine and the results it’s having. Thank you Lucy!

Lucy’s book has literally changed our lives, our 16 month old twins are finally in a proper routine, with regular naps, sleeping through the night and bedtime is no longer a battle. Best investment ever!

Your book was a game changer for us, gave us structure for her daytime routine and now at 17 months in her own room and sleeps from 7pm until 7am everynight ☺ we were up up to 20times a night with her silent reflux at one point so it was a long time getting here and your book played a big part in that for us so thank you!
