I had been breastfeeding my son on demand from birth, but when we reached the 9 month mark it had become exhausting as he was feeding 4-5 times per night and I couldn’t get any rest with him in bed with us. I felt extremely drained during the day, my son was often cranky, and only napped for about 30 mins, but I wanted to continue being as responsive as possible. Having done some research online, I was quite resistant to the idea of sleep training but my partner persuaded me that we should explore it. Lucy listened to all of our reservations about sleep training and suggested that we take things step by step. We made small changes at first and quite soon saw a big impact on our son’s ability to nap for longer and sleep for longer stretches. This persuaded us to move to the next stage and now we have weaned him from night feeds, he often sleeps for an hour and a half for his naps and he goes to sleep by being supported by both of his parents instead of being breastfed to sleep by me. The biggest change was in our son’s mood. He is in great form now and has a fantastic appetite and we both enjoy the daytime breastfeeds a lot more. For me, the load is shared between me and my partner instead of me always putting him down to sleep and always responding to him when he wakes. We have more time to ourselves in the evening because he is not constantly waking. I know bed sharing, feeding on demand and feeding to sleep works for many, but it wasn’t working for us anymore and we needed some help in supporting our son to make some changes. Lucy provided the detailed plan for us to do that. She was extremely efficient, knowledgeable and professional but also patient in working through the process with us. I am so glad that we contacted her.
