Today, our 14 month old happily goes to sleep herself in her cot and sleeps through for 11 hours most nights.

We worked with Lucy to improve our then 11 month old’s sleep. She had never slept well but at that point in time was awake for several hours each night, spending a lot of time in our bed, awake. We also struggled getting her to sleep, often spending an hour or more rocking her for what could be a 25 min nap.

Our timing was far from ideal, beginning a few days before my return to work and transitioning to a childminder.

Lucy took a tailored approach to our situation, working with the childcare transition that was happening in parallel. The “training” was extremely gentle, beginning with one of us sleeping in our daughter’s bedroom for several days. We made baby step adjustments every few days and our daughter accepted these at every point, indicating that she was comfortable with the changes.

Our process was interrupted two weeks in by a bad cold. Our baby’s sleep went back to square one if not worse for over two weeks. We thought we had lost all of our hard work. But the good habits slowly returned after a few days feeling well.

The process took about 6 weeks including the two sick weeks. Today, our 14 month old happily goes to sleep herself in her cot and sleeps through for 11 hours most nights. If we experience a setback, we go back to basics and find that consistency always gets us back on track.
