Baby M was just over 7 months when we contacted Lucy.  From only a few weeks old, M went to sleep either during a feed on the breast or being rocked on a shoulder.  This wasn’t our intention but after a bout of colic, we wanted to comfort our precious daughter to sleep in whichever way possible.  We had always planned to avoid bad habits but to be honest, when you have your baby in your arms you just do anything you can to help comfort them.  So the colic came and went but the nursing to sleep and shoulder rocking to sleep didn’t.  We spent hours during the day rocking M to sleep and numerous attempts to get her down into her cot without waking her.  If she woke up, she would just cry until we lifted her back up onto the shoulder and she would be asleep in seconds.    It was often the case that after nearly an hour of rocking and nearly getting her down, she would wake up bright eyed as she would have napped on the shoulder.  Naps didn’t really happen and we spent as much time walking with the buggy or driving so that M could get some sleep.  Night times were similar, but luckily she is a good sleeper so when we got her down into the cot asleep, she would normally stay asleep but we still lived in dread as many nights were spent with us sleeping with M on our shoulder.  We knew we couldn’t continue with this for much longer.

We had got a recommendation from a friend about the help that Lucy could provide and if we are completely honest, we were very skeptical.  However, the recommendation was so strong and positive that we decided to give it a go.  During our initial meeting with Lucy, we were surprised and somewhat relieved to understand that our problem wasn’t the worst at all and Lucy reassured us that she could definitely help us.  Lucy sent on a detailed plan especially for M and we couldn’t wait to get started.  It wasn’t easy for the first week but to be honest but it was not as difficult as we had imagined.  Baby M did cry but not as much as we thought she might.  Some days went better than others and then it just happened…we laid her down into the cot and baby M rolled over and went to sleep without any protest whatsoever.  Such an emotional time but Lucy is there to support and motivate at all times.  She is honest with her feedback and gives very strong direction which is exactly what we needed as we would not have been as disciplined without her guidance.   Each week Lucy would review our progress and advise us to make certain adjustments.  Making these small changes each week made massive differences.  Lucy knew exactly why certain things worked and others didn’t.  We trusted her guidance and it certainly paid off.

As the weeks have gone on, baby M has continued to show us that she is well able to go asleep by herself.  We enjoy listening to her roll around in the cot chatting before going off to sleep.  We know the sleep signs and after Lucy’s help we don’t wait until over-tiredness sets in before the nap.  Overall, we are much happier.  Baby M has learned something new and our backs and shoulders are certainly feeling the benefit!  M sleeps from 7pm to 7am and goes for 2 naps in her cot every day.  Some days are better than others but we now have the confidence and the understanding to adjust as required.  The most important thing is that we have not nursed or rocked our precious baby M to sleep since we started this process..something we would never have achieved without Lucy’s help.

Lucy, we cannot thank you enough.
