Our daughter initially started out as a great sleeper, naturally sleeping 10 hours plus per night from 3 months on. Given she slept so well we didn’t think there was anything wrong with holding her hand or rocking her to sleep, it seemed a small price to pay. Around the 5 month mark that changed. She began waking once or twice early in the evenings, and that progressed to several times all through the night. We did all sorts of things we said we wouldn’t – breastfed to calm her or co-sleeping in our bed to sooth her, among other things. They worked for a while, but eventually she was back to waking several times a night, inconsolable. We knew something needed to change but we were not sure what it was. Everyone we knew gave us well-meaning advice but ultimately nothing improved the situation. A friend referred me to Lucy. Although I no longer live in Ireland, working through Skype we were able to put a plan in motion that yielded results almost immediately. I learned about the importance of routine, creating a good sleep space and consistency. It wasn’t easy, and there were times we questioned ourselves and the approach – but that’s where the consistency comes in, you learn that you have to maintain the approach even in the face of the challenges! While L responded to the nap training and scheduling very well it took us a few weeks to figure out how to get her to sleep at night without prolonged tears. Working with Lucy, we eventually figured out what she specifically needed. A few weeks after we finished the training we went travelling so the routine was out the window. On our return we reapplied the training and very quickly she was back into her good sleeping habits, sleeping 11+ hours a night, napping 2.5 hours, and generally going to sleep with little fuss. The whole process was a massive learning experience for us as parents and incredibly useful. I would recommend Lucy’s sleep training approach to all parents – it really does set you and most importantly your child up for a future of good sleep.
