Our son C was born with a rare syndrome and for the first few months of his life had a number of issues and surgeries. I guess because of these we put his poor sleeping habits down to his ‘lack of routine’ etc. By 16 months of age however we were at our wits end. Putting C to sleep was a nightmare, and he would wake up anywhere between 5-10 times during the night..going back to sleep only with a bottle, dummy, tucking in etc. With another child (3 1/2 year old) and both of us trying to hold down full time jobs it was crippling.
We went to Lucy and she set us on the right path. We were medically advised that the syndrome should have no influence on his sleeping habits, but Lucy still took the time to brief herself on his condition. She set us a routine; whereby we as parents and our childminder had to stick to rigidly. The first two weeks were pretty tough – I found it hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel, but Lucy coached, encouraged and guided us through the process. We now have a life again! C is usually in bed for 7.15 pm, sleeps soundly through the night and has a great day time sleep too. Throughout chickenpox, a change from two sleeps to one and all the usual infections etc every small child gets, we always just stuck by the principles we learnt from Lucy. Quality day time sleep is a must for C always. Thank you Lucy for everything.
